Antoine De Saint-Exupery's "The Little Prince".
This book, "American Prince" is another pattern of weaving in the rich tapestry that Sierra Simone has created with her erotically-charged "New Camelot Trilogy". The richness comes from her facile references to Ancient Greek Myth through the centuries-old Celtic tale of Tristan and Isolde, as well as, other period literature. Most notably is her revisiting of Arthurian legend, undoubtedly without the projection of traditionally stricter values which are reflected in most retelling of the legend. This is the continuation of the inter-tangled love story and sexual menage a trois of three people: Ash (King Arthur), Greer (Guinevere) and Embry (Sir Lancelot). This is Lancelot, " The Little Prince's" story.
No reader will however, describe this rich, devastatingly sexual, emotionally colored, suspenseful story as dry and antiquated legend that requires the passion of the erudite reader to enjoy. No, this story takes place in a plausible political world where weighty issues of world events having impact whether America once again goes to war or not, are inter-twined with the loves and destinies of these three lovers.
Embry fully and completely drowning in the love he holds for both of them, is achingly handsome to both Ash and Greer. He has the air of a spoiled rich playboy. He, himself knows that until Ash and Greer, his previous sexual dalliances were vapid and transactional. He had never experienced the acute pain and longing as he did with both Ash and then Greer. Is the love he has for each different? Is his love of one equal to the love he holds for the other? What are the differences? Where and can these three happily coexist in their circle of three? These are just a few questions that come to the mind of the reader and makes the story so exquisitely intense. One cannot help but pay attention not only to the graphic beauty of their couplings; but also to the rapidly changing emotions arising within each character during the beautifully detailed sex. I am just guessing, but everyone who reads this will have their own romantic hopes projected on each of the characters according to their desires, their own experience of sexuality(?).
It is amazing how this author twists and turns the love story within an exciting plot. The respective histories of each character revealed at just the exact moment that surprises the reader and disabuses any conclusion that they may have come to, previously. We hear in Embry's words the first personal sacrifices he chose to make for Ash,who was his first real love. We hear of the effects of the real-life war, the battles they endured and the effect it had upon their relationship. Ash and Embry (Achilles and Patroclus) were comrades in arms bravely facing the threat from the enemy together. There's is an intense, hard and near violent coupling. Yet Embry, just by being who he is, touched the heart of his " King Arthur" in a way as close as no one has ever come.
The irony of how he found his true love with Greer is not lost on the reader. That he burns for her and aches for her is dizzying to hear. His sense of propriety and loyalty is amazing considering how moved he was with his love for Greer. The love that circles through "the three" seems commingled with a hard to purge jealousy. Often it seems the "loneliest number is not one" but "three". The expression of this uncomfortable emotion demonstrates that the author is almost discovering her characters for herself as she writes them for us.
The reader cannot help but feel the rhythm of the author's words...the poetry of the thrice repeated refrain. The emotions of the characters so beautifully discovered in the scintillating soul-searing erotic scenes. Especially with Embry, the sex so punctuated with pure desire for just that person until he is mindless in his passion.
There is no mistaking that Embry is "the lover" and of course he is "The Little Prince". Because of the great love he feels for Ash and Greer. He does "sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice" in the name of this love. I was personally astonished at the level of his sacrifice for all concerned...and...the level of psychological pain he has endured and is further willing to endure. Then again, I wonder of all this pain simply combines to multiply his pleasure? (Such a prurient thought.)
Just as I did for Greer in the previous book, American Queen, I fear for our American Prince...our Lancelot. Perhaps it is because I know of no other happy telling of the fate of Lancelot in Arthurian legend. My hope is perhaps in this "New Camelot Trilogy", I will at last have a new ending to the tale. One click, to join me in my quest.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2022Will I ever stop wanting to know more about the first lady Greer Galloway Colchester, the commanding President Maxen Ashley Colchester, and charismatic vice-president Embry Moore? Probably not. Because if one thing is clear in American Prince, there is so much more about these characters than we think we know.
The book relies heavily on Embry's narration, yet it is intertwined with Greer's voice. It starts where American Queen ended and goes back and forth between the past and the present. The secrets, the lies, the emotions are all there. Just more profound and more interwoven.
We start to understand where Embry's decisions come from, making it impossible not to be touched by the sacrifices made when loving a man like Ash. He constantly battles the need to do the right thing without jeopardizing the greater good. While the easy thing would be to point fingers, it becomes evident that he is a victim of the circumstances. A small player on a giant spiderweb. And on this note, can I say I really hate Greer's cousin Abilene? Not even Morgan nor Merlin deserve redemption.
American Prince is also the book where we see how Greer, Ash, and Embry become a unit of three. The dynamics that go within and outside the bedroom are complex and mesmerizing. But the thing that hit me the most in the constant battle of emotions and hurt, which ran so deep that it's impossible to wonder if they can ever stand a chance.
Well done, Sierra Simone. Well done.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2018Dramatically eloquent & endearing, with an erotic sharp edge!
These books have been on my TBR for awhile. I knew of Sierra Simone’s capability to create a very risqué storyline after reading Priest. Yet nothing could have prepared me for this impressive trilogy! It’s scandalous. It’s witty. It’s angsty. It’s super-sexy-hot! I binged these books over the course of the last few days and I’m a wreck and in complete awe.
Not only is the prose so beautiful and descriptive, there’s a heaping measure of pure wit and intelligence that delves deep into the complexities of human behavior and love. The woven metaphors of mythological references tied with legend - particularly that of King Arthur and his Knights - make a formidable backbone to this story. The imagery spectacularly detailed, my mind swirled with so many conjured-up scenes.
“I’ve become one of those damsels in the legends that I teach about at Georgetown, one of those women in the stories who represents sex or virtue or deceit or any number of things to the gallant knight she’s entreating for help. To complain that these women are passive is to miss the point; they aren’t women at all. They’re symbols, defined by the meaning the knights make of them, recognizable only as the role they play in the knight’s adventure.”
The varied points of views created so many layers, opening revelations and shrouding mystery at the same time. I am a conflicted pile of feelings I can’t even begin to articulate. I felt hate and love and betrayal and trust and loyalty and lies all at the same time! And not just over the course of one, or even two chapters; it spanned over the course of the entire series. I highlighted so much; I’ve had a hard time deciding which to include in this review.
I only caution to approach these books with an open mind, embrace the love, and get lost in the suspension of disbelief. This is a finely crafted spicier twist to a popular legend; Sierra Simone’s very unique take to a happily ever after. I think this passage succinctly summarizes the plot:
“once upon a time, there were two warriors who loved the same woman as much as they loved each other. And everything that happened afterwards led inevitably to tragedy.”
Book 1: AMERICAN QUEEN - We’re introduced to Greer. The story is mostly told from her POV. It takes you through the beginnings: how she met Ash and how she connected with Embry. This book hooked me into this series!
“The first step to understanding anything—whether it’s the Bible or Fifty Shades of Grey—is acknowledging that we come to it with agendas of our own. We want it to mean something, we are biased whether we know it or not, and usually what we walk away with is what we want to walk away with.”
“Do you like this? his face seemed to ask. Do you want more? Would you crawl for me? Bleed for me?
He didn’t say the question out loud, but I said the answer out loud. “Yes, please.”
His hand tightened in my hair, his pupils widened, and for one perfect moment, I thought he was going to kiss me.”
Book 2: AMERICAN PRINCE - This is Embry’s story. The little prince. Told mostly from Embry’s and Ash’s POV. For me this started filling in a lot of the blanks and added more depth to the story.
“Ash is calculated with his cruelty, but Embry is not. Embry is a slave to his own cruel urges, lost to himself in a way Ash could never be. And so I’m actually scared. Which is what I want. What I need. It seems counterintuitive—masochistic even, when I’ve only ever dabbled in masochism, preferring instead the more power-oriented dynamic of submission.”
Book 3: AMERICAN KING -Ash’s story. The revealing and shocking conclusion. So many secrets and action explained. Twists I was not expecting. A delicious emotional turmoil I savored and relished with every page.
“I was holding a door open to a room I didn’t know I had, keeping a hidden garden free of weeds, sheltering a hollow meant for someone or something I couldn’t yet see.
And then came Embry Moore.
And then came Greer Galloway.
How does a man end up loving two people, you ask? This is how.”
Gather some extra undies and keep your partner close. *Wink-wink*
This series is one wild-hot ride!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great sequel! Loved it entirely
This one is even better than the first. I loved everything about Embry and Ash's past, their story is so emotional, painful, and memorable. Saved many quotes. However, I didn't like the Abilene plot that much, to be honest. I think it was a bit over the place.
Anyway this book is awesome, and I had a great time reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Absolutely fantastic!
I'm reeling from this novel! There are no words to describe what I'm feeling after just finishing the last sentence. Sierra Simone - you're a brilliant writer!
If you haven't read American Queen, I strongly suggest you do that ASAP! Then you'll be grasping for a copy of American Prince promptly upon finishing it. I promise you, this version of a modern fairytale is something you don't want to miss! Greer, Embry, Ash....the dynamic is so hot, its combustible! 5 stars, hands down! 💕

5.0 out of 5 stars Sierra Simone still owns my heart and feelings days after I finished!
My heart is still broken and my feelings still linger in the story with Ash, Greer and Ambry!
Why you ask? Well, this was my rambling at one am after I just finished the book:
My panties are drenched, my heart is broken and I feel all the feels and dried the tears.
I absolutely didn't see that coming and the way American Prince went I have absolutely no idea what American King will bring. I'm holding on to the hope for a HEA for the triade but I'm not delusional to keep a blind eye that it will be heartbreaking and hurting and devastating til that can be reached.
Sierra Simone totally blows me away with this series! There's so much history between the characters, so many emotions, so much hurt, so much betrayal, so much lust and heat and chemistry. And all those secrets and the intrigues from family and friends and consultants and false friends.
Sierra Simone's writing has me deeply invested in the story and characters that my feelings are messed and I'm so desperate for American King.
I can't really form words to put into a review that would do this series justice!
Just know that I'm over the moon in love with it and am craving and lusting for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Read of 2017 - 6 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I finished American Prince two days ago and it has taken me this long to gather my thoughts. I loved book one in this series - American Queen, but it did not prepare me for what I would feel during this book. So many different emotions ran through me while reading American Prince but at the end of it all, Heartbroken is the best single word I can think of. This book deserves six stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book gives us Embry's backstory, and what a powerful, raw, honest story that is. I simply adored hearing about how he met both Ash and Greer and what he felt about them. His internal dialogue is some of the best I have ever read. Sierra's ability to draw a picture with her words is unparalleled.
In twenty-two years, no one, no one, had ever made me feel like this. Not just claimed, but like that claim was literally staked into my flesh, anchored to my bone.
I loved reading about all the stolen moments he and Ash shared. The gentle and sweet moments amongst their raw and rough ones. The longevity of their love story is beautiful.
"Say this isn’t the end, Embry. Say you’ll keep teaching me to dance. Say you’ll be my little prince. Please.”
He was only half-monster now, and there in his face I could see my Achilles again, the man who danced with me, and was it wrong of me that I craved both? The man who danced and the man who bruised me?
And then he stilled, just for a moment, one hand coming up to press against the side of my cheek. “You’re beautiful in the moonlight,” he said quietly.
I really enjoyed having the multiple POVs in the chapters and I feel that the reader truly gets to know the dynamics between all the characters in this book. I for one did not realise the depth of Greer and Embry's feelings in book one but felt them shine through in American Prince. Similarly I didn't understand the depth of Ash's feelings for Embry until this book. I loved that their jealousies were bared and honestly explored.
And if I ever thought Ash held all the power in their relationship, I see it clearly now: Embry holds my husband’s heart in his hands and he doesn’t even know it. He’s too busy looking at the details of Ash’s face to see Ash’s expression, too busy being in love to see how loved he is. It breaks my heart. “Kiss me,” Ash says quietly. “Please.”
There are some scenes in this book that people might struggle with and I expect to read some negative, witch hunt type rants online, but I want to say that for me, even though some scenes were uncomfortable, they were necessary, they were all consensual and they were honest. These three characters truly love each other and they willingly choose this dynamic. It is not our place to judge what they mean to each other. Ultimately this is a love story. Traditional - no. It is a love story that is at times raw, broken and twisted. But still definitely a love story and for me, the difficult, heartbreaking stories are the best ones.
“Having you both in my bed is such a gift,” Ash says, as if sensing my thoughts. “I never could have imagined…”
This is marriage, I think dizzily. Joy and pain, exposed and exchanged. Joy and pain, shared.
As with book one, this book ends on a major cliffhanger and leaves the reader desperate for book three. There are secrets revealed and betrayals carried out that rock the foundation of our three main characters and I cannot wait to see the outcome and have all my fingers crossed that everyone gets the ending they deserve.
